Barney’s Beanery opens location on Redondo Pier

Barney’s Beanery, a fixture on Route 66 in West Hollywood, Calif., since 1920, has opened a new site on the renovated Redondo Pier in Redondo Beach, Calif., according to The Beach Reporter.

The newspaper reported:

Like its sister locations, Barney’s is decked out with similar decor inspired by Route 66 and entertainment legends. Dozens of license plates hang on the ceiling, vintage motorcycles are prominent and the decorative tables are covered with photos of entertainment and sports stars.

There are more than 70 televisions, so no sporting event will be missed. To go along with that sports bar/roadhouse feel, there are nearly 200 imported and domestic beers available, along with more than 700 items on the menu. The menu has plenty of comfort food options, from hamburgers and pizza to breakfast served all hours. But the most famous item on the menu is the “classic” all-beef chili, which has been served since 1920.

“Back during the Depression, people would trade in their license plate for a bowl of chili, so we still implement that in all our locations,” said day manager Vanessa Swartz.

The Redondo Beach Barney’s posted these photos on its Facebook page:

The Redondo Pier isn’t on Route 66. But if you’re traveling that direction, the Barney’s there would make a good option for those wanting to support Route 66 businesses. Map to the place is here; it sits about 15 miles south of the traditional western endpoint of Route 66, the Santa Monica Pier.
