A few weeks ago, Andrew Zimmern, host of the Travel Channel show “Bizarre Foods,” announced a Route 66 episode was in the hopper for the program’s new season.
We now know when it first will air: 9 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday, Feb. 21.
Here is the synopsis of the episode, titled “Road Tripping Route 66”:
Andrew Zimmern sets off on historic Route 66, where he tries ranch dressing soda, judges a calf fry cook-off and dines at some of the most iconic diners along the world-famous highway. He also eats quail stew, onion burgers and ox tail.
I’m certain he procured the ranch dressing soda at Pops in Arcadia, Oklahoma — along with 500 other soda flavors there. A calf-fry cookoff occurs each year in Vinita, Oklahoma, and onionburgers are all the rage in El Reno, Oklahoma.
I also heard through the grapevine Ron “Tattoo Man” Jones makes an appearance in the episode.
Other broadcast times — all Eastern time — for “Road Tripping Route 66” include midnight the night of Feb. 21, noon Feb. 25, 9 p.m. Feb. 27 and 6 p.m. and midnight Feb. 28.
UPDATE 2/16/2017: Dave Cathey at The Oklahoman newspaper got a lot of great quotes and information about the episode from Zimmern.
