Just in time too...we were running out of museums on the Route!
Cool looking old building. But is there no other community purpose for which this space can be used? I know I've commented on the over "museum-ing" of the Route before, so I won't complain about it too much.

I see at least three improvement proposals for the Blue Hole on the state's list, RT. One is the road leading to the Blue Hole, which may be somewhat peripheral. But there's little doubt the Blue Hole needs a well-maintained road to get tourists there.
Whether or not the state includes Route 66 in the Ilfeld proposal, there's little doubt that's what the city wants the space used for.

Unfortunately, completely inaccurate publicity on the part of Santa Rosa and their paper! 1st of all the state funding, as you noted, is subject to the Governor's signature, which is still doubtful. 2nd the funding request is purposed for rehab of the Ilfeld Warehouse building ONLY, and has no state recognition or wording for any Route 66 Museum associated with it. 3rd, also as pointed out, Santa Rosa does not own the land, which complicates any proposal. And 4th, but definately not least, the $325K applied for, will most certainly not cover all the improvements necessary to open.
We saw an additional $100K requested for Park Lake, but nothing for the Blue Hole???

Chimin' in, tks to a few tweets, skimmed and now bookmarked this page, as I'm an @Pixar fan since Toy Story I! (led me to study CGI as a major, even!)... so thanks for the background in character development, that's one of the most challenging facets for an animator, as it lends credence and believability to a story, connecting it to real places and people, as was the case with "Cars" & Route 66... Appreciated!

The County is also holding public meetings regarding Central from 106th Street west to Atrisco Vista on top of Nine Mile Hill. That plan deals with land use, zoning, transportation, design and a Gateway project that according to the mission “will create a memorable corridor that reflects the heritage of Route 66…” and is proposed to eventually include a visitor center at the crest of the hill. Yippee! That’s my side of town.
The City of Albuquerque is updating its West Route 66 Sector Development Plan and how they deal with Central from Rio Grande Blvd to the county line at 106th Street. They have held several public meetings about land use, zoning, etc. and created a potential project list. Included was a complete rework of the Central and Unser intersection that has been conceptualized and should be getting close to approval.

I finally did the classic Route 66 road trip in August 2011 (after 9 straight years vacationing in the USA and having spent the night in 35 different states).
I saw this hotel room in my research to the trip and booked it. It turned out to be an experience of a lifetime. I have made a detailed description, taken a lot of pictures and video and posted it on my travel blog. You can see it here: http://www.renefrederiksen.dk/travel-stories-road-trips-usa/a-night-in-grand-canyon-caverns-suite-on-route-66/

This was my absolute favorite TV show as a little kid. I totally idolized Tod and Buz and wanted their lifestyle (still do), freewheeling around America in a Corvette.
It was such a cool, hip show, right down to the Nelson Riddle theme song. I've always been very surprised it's never been resurrected as reruns anywhere.
