A few days ago, this site was singled out by the editorial staff of Best Blog on WordPress, which searches for blogs that use WordPress.com "that are worthy of taking a look."
I was extremely flattered and grateful for the recognition, especially when there are 160,000 WordPress blogs and growing. I didn't even know Best Blog on WordPress existed until it linked here.
When I started this site in October, my goal was to post once a day. It was a struggle, particularly during slow times like the Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's holidays. Route 66 News now averages about three posts a day and a readership base that keeps growing. Obviously there is a lot going on with an old road that had been given up for dead nearly 25 years ago.
If you were referred here by Best Blog on WordPress, welcome. Check out the pages of links. Use the search engine to seek out stuff that interests you.
Most of all, get out on Route 66 and drive it. The Mother Road is like a portal to a nearly bygone era, waiting to be discovered anew. Discover it.
I concur, Ron! Your site is indeed an excellent resource for those of us livin’ on Route 66.
Congratulations. It’s much deserved.
Thanks, Chantal.
Chantal, by the way, is the fearless leader of the excellent Albuquerque blog collective, Duke City Fix.
I would advise Route 66 fans to surf to http://www.dukecityfix.com regularly.
I know I do.
Hey Ron:
Congrats on the honors:
What I know about WordPress is pretty much how to spell it, but I know you have done a fantastic job with this site, and frankly it is head and shoulders above any other site that purports to be about Route 66.
You are a daily, reliable source of news and events about things concerning 66, and that is refreshing.
Nice to see someone actually celebrating the Route and its people, and not just trying to sell memberships or magazine subscriptions off a site that hasn’t been updated for years.
All the best
Tim
ps and just to clarify…you get paid exactly dick for doing this too right?
Nope, I don’t get paid a thing … so far, at least. But setting up a WordPress.com site is free, and the only thing I had to pay for was the dirt-cheap http://www.route66news.org domain.
The site has helped lead to a few nice freelance gigs. But I mainly do it for the fun.
Your site is one of the first things I go to when I get online. This is an honor that is well-deserved.
Keep up the great work.
We’re proud of you. Nice to see you’re getting some recognition for your talent and diligence.
