According to box-office estimates from Box Office Mojo, Pixar's "Cars" movie was No. 1 for the second consecutive weekend, with total estimated grosses of $31.2 million.
It beat out stiff competition from "Nacho Libre" ($27.5 million) and "Fast and Furious 3" ($24 million).
"Cars" also has soared past the $100 million mark in total grosses and is near $120 million already. And it hasn't even opened wide in many foreign markets.
"Cars" seems to have strong legs. During Monday-through-Thursday, which is a slow part of the week, it was averaging a robust $5 million to $6 million a day. Upcoming Pixar reported earlier that "Cars'" weekday averages were more than double Pixar's previous film, "The Incredibles."
So it seems that dire predictions about "Cars" being a flop were premature, to say the least.
I wanted to say I just saw “Cars” for the second time this past weekend. This movie definately deserves a second viewing (as well as a purchase on DVD).
Since I wasn’t watching the story as closely I was able to catch some of the smaller details. If you look closely at the photos in office of the Cozy Cone you will see a cone version of the Round barn of Arcadia (Upper right corner of the wall) and a stone version of Carhenge (lower right corner). There were a few other photos but I had trouble identifying them.
In one of the opening shots of the raceway at the end of the film you can see two cars spitting over the edge in the top row of seats.
After the show, my Lovely Wife announced that she wanted to spend our 25th anniversary next year tooling up & down 66. I dang neart cried.
