The diner portion of the new Lucille’s Roadhouse in Weatherford, Okla., has been open for a couple days. For now, it is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day but Sunday.
Eventually, it will be open seven days a week. It’s at 1301 Airport Road in Weatherford, at a T-intersection of Route 66 on the east edge of town.
The steakhouse portion of Lucille’s Roadhouse won’t be open until sometime in September. The woman who answered the phone there said business is so crazy right now that they wouldn’t be ready for it anyway.
Lucille’s Roadhouse is inspired by the original Lucille’s on Route 66 in nearby Hydro, Okla., which was operated by Lucille Hamons for decades until her death in 2000.
Oil man Rick Koch, in addition to building Lucille’s Roadhouse, also bought the original Lucille’s and fixed up the once-deteriorating property. It’s in much better condition than it was even 18 months ago. It will still sit empty, but it’ll still be there for travelers who want to see this historic site.
I’ll be at Lucille’s Roadhouse in a couple days and report back on what I find.
Try the “Fried Onion CheeseBurger and Fries”…..atmosphere is great.
As part of a team of 5 x 30s British Austin Sevens travelling Route 66 in September we visited Lucilles on the 9th. We were impressed with the design which was true to the period of the ‘old road’ and with excelent food and service.
The whole enterprise deserves to prosper.
All 5 cars reached Santa Monica on schedual with the minimum of troubles. It was a fabulous journey
