Ham radio operators to celebrate Route 66

There are 12 towns mentioned in Bobby Troup‘s famed song “Route 66” — Chicago, St. Louis, Joplin, Oklahoma City, Amarillo, Flagstaff, Gallup, Kingman, Barstow, San Bernardino, Los Angeles, and don’t forget Winona.

Amateur radio operators in each of those towns and five other cities on Route 66 will organize a “Route 66 on the Air” event on Sept. 9-17, according to a news item in the Daily Oklahoman.

The Citrus Belt Amateur Radio Club in Highland, Calif., is sponsoring the event.

  1. Greeetings. I plan to operate as my Amateur station as a mobile operator on September 16, 2006 on Route 66 from St.Louis to Lebanon, MO. My Amateur Callsign is K4SX. I should be on the air from early morning to around noon. As a point of interest, I was born in Lebanon, MO. My father, Dean K0LDL owned and operated a Sinclair gas station on Route 66 in Lebanon, MO in the late 40’s. For those of you who can hear me Saturday morning I will operate on the 40 meter band so please listen for me operating my mobile station around the 7.266mhz frequency.
