Back in June, the Thunderbird Motel neon sign that once graced the Route 66 motor court in Miami, Okla., was sold in an estate auction for a reported $24,000.
Now it’s for sale again — this time on eBay. The bidding is up to $3,750, but there’s more than six days left in the auction, and there’s a reserve, too. The photo above is from the eBay listing — apparently still in its shipping crate.
I’m positive it’s not a replica. The dimensions are exactly the same as the one listed at the earlier estate auction. I’ve got an e-mail into the seller to figure out why the sign’s on the block again so soon after it was sold.
I wonder why he didn’t put Route 66 in the main title/header?
Who was the sign purchased from originally? Was interested as a collector and would like to know who you purchased the sign from?
I don’t know. I have nothing to do with the seller.
That old Thunderbird sign certainly brings back memories to me — my ex-husband took a shot at me (gun-shot!) in the parking lot of the T-Bird Motel & Lounge back in the late ’60s. lol. A series of Route 66 neon wall lights came out sometime in the ’90s (I think) and the Oklahoma light featured the Thunderbird. I saw it in a mall in Joplin, MO, while back in Miami for my son’s wedding and laughed about it — now I’m trying like crazy to find one of the Thunderbird lamps! If anyone knows where to find one, please don’t hesitate to email me: cvann46032@att.net.
