A Taste of Route 66, described as a “self-paced dining tour,” is scheduled for Saturday in the Pomona, Calif., area. There will be four stops, and a lot of prizes will be given to participants.
The fee is $16 in advance or $19 on the day of the event. It starts at the Pomona Elks Lodge at 695 E. Foothill Blvd., and other stops won’t be revealed until later. Interestingly, proceeds will be used to test interest in a Route 66 Welcome Center.

We need to do this in Tulsa. The amount of incredible food on this road is staggering. Maybe that’s the way to get people paying attention to the Admiral Place alignment: We need to do a restaurant crawl and include Admiral in the trip. Hatfield’s, Brother Arthur’s, Hank’s, Ike’s, Hero’s, and the Blue Dome Diner are all on that alignment, and I’m betting most roadies have no idea any of those places are there.
Whether Admiral Place would go for something as Brookside as a restaurant crawl is a whole ‘nother question, but it’s worth trying. Maybe I’ll start putting some bugs into some ears this winter and see if we can get that going for spring.
