Active Arcadia

Yesterday, I drove through the Route 66 town of Arcadia, Okla. It’s not very big (pop. 280), but there’s a lot of activity going on there.

First, it appeared the canopy superstructure of the Pops convenience store, which is the brainchild of Chesapeake Energy CEO and Route 66 fan Aubrey McClendon, is nearly up.

Having seen it for the first time, I’ll say this about it: Dang, it’s big.

For more about Pops, which is set to open this summer, go here.

Also, I saw a painting crew working on the historic Round Barn. Don’t worry about the color; it’s just primer. It will be the usual red when it’s done, I’m told.

And I’ve been told that the Windmill Shops strip mall on the eastern part of town will be taking tenants in about a month or so.
