Rod Harsh at Route 66 TV Online was kind enough to send me pictures from yesterday’s Route 66 Half-Marathon, which starts at the Kansas-Missouri state line and goes 13.1 miles on old Route 66 to the Kansas-Oklahoma line.
The photo above is taken at the historic Rainbow Bridge near Riverton, Kan.
Scott Nelson of Eisler Bros. General Store, who helps organize the event each year, said about 60 runners competed. The top athlete completed the course in 1 hour, 21 minutes. Nelson is in the center wearing a white T-shirt.
For more photos, check out Harsh’s site here.
The Half Marathon was a lot of fun! It was my second tim to run it (first was in 2003) and the first time for my wife, Tracy. It was the first ever half marathon for my father-in-law, Rick Hines from Erie, KS.
Where can we find race results? Can you email them to me, if they are not available online?
Also, the gentleman taking pictures, does he have a photo slide show online anywhere?
There were no online results posted last year. You might call Eisler Bros. Old Riverton Store and ask for Scott; I would think he might have the results.
I was in Texas, scraping paint at the historic Vega Motel, on Saturday, so I missed this year’s half-marathon, but it’s a great course and a great run. Crowd support was pretty thin when I ran it, but the folks handing out water and directing traffic were very sweet. The course is good and challenging (lots of hills, and the day I ran it, I had a strong headwind) and goes past some great landmarks.
I have a soft spot for this particular race, because the prospect of running the length of Kansas’ share of Route 66 inspired me to take up distance running in the first place. Most of the time, I’m grateful for that. đ
What is this year’s date? How do I register? What is nearest airport? Where would I stay the night before? Drove 66 from St Louis to Albq last year-loved it!
