Actually, the original 1926 path of Route 66 arrived in downtown Joplin on First Street via. the Broadway Viaduct, making the site of this photo on the original, and later in 1935, the first alternate route of the Mother Road. The old viaduct was removed some years ago when the new bridge was built, and which today enters Joplin on Second Street, hence the confusion.
Alas, the Watts Paint sign is gone now.
