“Cars” earned more awards on Sunday night. It won best animated feature at the 34th annual Annie Awards, which honor achievements in animation.
The Route 66-based film defeated “Happy Feet,” “Over the Hedge,” “Monster House” and “Open Season” for the honor.
The victory makes “Cars,” directed by Pixar‘s John Lasseter, the front-runner for Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards later this month. According to the report from the Associated Press:
The winner has gone on to claim the Oscar for animated feature every year since the Academy Award for animation was created. […]
Lasseter praised the filmmakers who released more than a dozen animated films in 2006.
“What a year we’ve had in animation,” he said.
Also, “Cars” scorer Randy Newman won an award for best music in a feature.
Glad Cars won the best movie at the Annie awards! Because it was easily the best animation movie of the year! The movie was very entertaining, great special effects, and excellent characters. But most important of all it has introduced a new generation of children in all corners of the world of the legendary Route 66!
“Our Town” will become a classic. (You read it here first!) I believe that the song will be sung and played years from now, even by people who are unaware of its Route 66-related origin. Now I’m holding my breath for the Academy Awards. “Cars” is a remarkable movie, and it deserves the award.
My daughter lives in Prague and went to see the Czech-dubbed version — the DVD of which she gave me for Christmas. I didn’t know Lightening could speak Czech! A very talented guy!
