Mother Road news and notes

A lot has been going on lately. I’ll try to summarize the goings-on as best as I can:

  • A tentative opening date of May 20 has been set for the Boothill Saloon and Grill in Vega, Texas. That’s the new restaurant owned by Rory Schepisi, a runner-up in CMT’s “Popularity Contest” reality show. She’s also was a contestant in “The Next Food Network Star,” which starts airing in June.
  • Don’t be surprised if the Rose Bowl in Tulsa, which received an ugly red, white blue and purple paint job a couple of years ago, is returned to its traditional pink color before Memorial Day.
  • The Antique Ranch barbecue restaurant in Adrian, Texas, has closed.
  • A new historical museum in Weatherford, Okla., is opening this summer. You can read about the Heartland of America Museum at its Web site here.
  • Jesse’s Cafe in Wildorado, Texas, has been purchased, is being remodeled to its 1950s and ’60s splendor, and will be reopened by summer.
  • The Route 66 Interpretive Center, located in a 1930s Armory building in Chandler, Okla., is set to open May 19 at 11 a.m.

That’s not all the scuttlebutt I have. I’ll have more later.
