Senior Hall of Fame inductee has Mother Road connection

One of this year’s inductees to the Illinois Seniors Hall of Fame has a connection to Route 66.

That inductee is Betty Estes of Pontiac, who founded the town’s tourism department and was its first tourism director, according to the Ottawa (Ill.) Times.

And then there’s this:

She also helped develop the Red Carpet Corridor, a cooperative effort by communities along old U.S. 66 from Joliet to Towanda.

Estes spearheaded the movement to open the Route 66 Museum and Hall of Fame, which opened in the city’s former fire station in 2005.

Keep in mind that those two accomplishments occurred in less than a five-year period.

  1. Betty is a remarkable woman. Aside from her outstanding achievements, she is such a beautiful and wonderful woman. She is a role model for young woman and her ability to keep on trucking is astonishing. Congrats to Betty!
