Here’s a brief from Wednesday’s Albuquerque Journal about the continuing fight to preserve El Vado Motel:
A state district judge advised developer Richard Gonzales and the city of Albuquerque on Tuesday to seek a compromise in their dispute over El Vado Motel.
Gonzales is seeking a demolition permit to tear down at least part of the motel and redevelop it. The city wants to preserve it as a landmark.
Chief Judge William Lang heard arguments on the issue Tuesday but didn’t issue a decision. He said he will make a written ruling “promptly.”
In the meantime, he encouraged the parties “to find a resolution that both sides can live with.”
John Kelly, an attorney for Gonzales, said his client is “open to discussions with the city.”
