Michael Martin Murphey, best-known for his hits “What’s Forever For” and “Wildfire,” will perform a solo show in the historic Armory building in Chandler, Okla., at 7 p.m. Sunday, reports the Tulsa World.
General admission tickets are $20 each, with reserved seating $30 each. All proceeds will go toward the Route 66 Interpretive Center, which is housed in the Armory building. Call 405-258-1300 if you need more information.
You can almost bet that Murphey will perform his cover of Bobby Troup’s “Route 66,” which Murphey recorded in his 1989 album “Land of Enchantment.” Murphey also was quoted extensively in Michael Wallis’ signature book, “Route 66: The Mother Road.”
I noticed that Murphey also has a gig on April 21 in the Route 66 town of Shamrock, Texas, in the high school auditorium. There also are December shows in Springfield, Mo., and Oklahoma City, according to his schedule.
