From dirt into art

KFOR-TV in Oklahoma City did a story about Bradley’s Pottery in Chandler, Oka., which is on Route 66.

It turns out that Julie Bradley uses Oklahoma’s red clay right in her back yard for her creations.

“This red clay is equivalent to stoneware,” she says. “So you can bake with it. You can microwave with it. You can dishwasher it.”

Over the past couple of years Julie has learned how to best clean her clay of sand and other impurities. She dries it a little and adds a few ingredients to make it workable.

Bradley also donates 6.6 percent of her “Oklahoma Route 66 Red Clay” sales to a Route 66 preservation project. To see the remarkable pottery she has made, go here.
