Herb Schroeder has compiled photographs from Arizona’s Route 66 for a book, “Windswept Images Presents: The Heart of Route 66,” reports the Kingman Daily Miner.
The images come from a variety of eras, in black-and-white and color. The soft-cover volume is 24 pages, and retails for $14.99.
The book will be sold at the Route 66 Powerhouse Museum, Calico’s restaurant and the Hilltop Motel gift shop starting at Saturday during the Fun Run. It also will be available at the Hastings Books Music & Video store by Monday.
In regards to “The Heart of Route 66”:
Actually they are all photos I have taken, in the last few years. Seeing the old Hackberry General Store cars in color does not quite give the feel of historical perspective that I wanted to portray. Angel Delgadillo was in black and white because it also has a photo of him as a young man in the background. But the places have been there for a long time with the exception of Keepers of the Wild. Keepers of the Wild recently relocated to Valentine along Route 66.
While taking the photos and milling around up and down our stretch of Route 66, I noticed there were no books that showed a lot of photos of our area. I wanted to make a souvenier book that tourists could take home and say, “Look, I was there.” So It has photos from Seligman to Topock. There were so many photos I would like to have included, but couldn’t because of size restraint. I hope it will be enjoyed for years to come.
Thank you for posting my book in your news.
