The Frankfort Station, based in Frankfort, Ill., published a story today about how Frankfort Township is constructing a new administration building.
Tucked into the story is this:
When the new structure is completed and the administration has moved in, the current building will be torn down, to make room for several improvements Stipan can’t wait to see.
In place of the building, the township will place a park between the building and Autumn Valley, some of the township’s senior housing. On part of the land, they plan to build a Route 66 gazebo — one of only 20 in the state of Illinois.
“We’ll have all the bells and whistles (in the gazebo),” Stipan said, including a history of Route 66 and other information.
The township offices are at 11008 W. Lincoln Highway in Frankfort. Yes, you’re reading that right. Franklin Township’s offices are not on Route 66, but on the historic Lincoln Highway. The nearest alignment to Route 66 is at least 10 miles away, in Joliet.
It’s good the township is touting Route 66. But wouldn’t it be a tad more appropriate for it to publicize the historic coast-to-coast highway that the township is actually sitting on?
Are you sure that’s correct? Illinois Lincoln Highway is putting up 20 gazebos in the state — all having to do with the Lincoln Highway, not Route 66. Haven’t heard about Route 66 putting up any gazebos in Frankfort. Just curious.
