Gallery opens in historic Route 66 hotel

The historic Aztec Hotel on Route 66 in Monrovia, Calif., opened its Route 66 Gallery on Saturday night, reports the Foothill Weeklies.

The unique approach to this gallery is that it has not the stuffy atmosphere of a “name gallery” and is less intimidating for those new to the art world.

On Saturday, we saw some stunning works of art from sculpture to oils and watercolors. A first of its kind in Monrovia, some quipped that eventually the whole hotel would be covered with local art. Kathy Reece said that may very well happen.

A longtime supporter of local artists, Reece herself also exhibits her unique “all that glitters” line of art. She says her children 7 and 10 years old help a lot with the sparkling creations than dazzle the beholder. Helping visitors enjoy the exhibits were Reece’s two daughters, who also contributed to the show with some of their impromptu drawings which they proudly adhered to some open walls.

The casual and friendly atmosphere is sure to be a winning combination.
