Taking care of the sign problem

In a few towns along Route 66, it’s tough for novices to navigate the Main Street of America because the directional road signs are missing or stolen.

Miami, Okla., took the initiative to solve that problem, reports the Daily Oklahoman. The town has painted the Oklahoma Route 66 logo right on the road surface.

Amanda Davis with the Convention and Visitors Bureau said the idea to paint the streets with the logo was a solution to a repeated problem travelers seem to have when taking a road trip through Oklahoma.

“It seems that sometimes people have a hard time finding it,” she said. “So we put that down just to be sure they know they are still on 66,” she said.

Davis also reported a big surge in international tourists this summer on the Mother Road, most likely because of the strength of the euro.
