Soon, we will know the date of whether Tucumcari, N.M., will receive a state license for a horse-racing track and casino, which would be on Route 66.
According to the Quay County Sun, the New Mexico Racing Commission will announce Wednesday the date in which it will select the winner of the “racino” license.
When a public hearing was held in Tucumcari in late July, more than 1,200 people attended. It was reported at the time that the state would select a winner within 30 to 60 days.
Commissioners will go into a closed session Wednesday to discuss the applicants. The other two applicants are in Raton and Santa Fe. There also will be an open-session part of the meeting.
This part of the story is intriguing:
The commission can change its agenda up to 24 hours before the meeting.
Does this mean the commission could be ready to make the big announcement on Wednesday itself?
Stay tuned.
