KSPR-TV in Springfield, Mo., reports about a group of Dutchmen who are taking a road trip down Route 66 in motorized bicycles that seldom exceed 20 mph.
That’s slow, but they’re getting 200 miles per gallon in the process. The group is raising money for an Indonesian school.
The group’s Web site can be found here.
UPDATE: Here’s a video from the group’s stop at Cruisin’ 66 Cycles in Springfield, Mo.

I just had a great visit with Aad Van Osselen… the mastermind behind this trip! He tells me he has been planning for a couple of years. He has accumulated mounds of print outs, maps, and books. Enough to fill a wall of bookcases!
He needed some help getting through Amarillo, without breaking their rule of “no Interstate driving”, so I gave him “Becky” directions… (If they get lost it wasn’t me!) He has Jim and Jerry’s maps so he should do fine.
Their bikes are great! They are having a wonderful time.
I was very pleased to note that they do indeed wear wooden shoes! Of course, we would expect nothing less… don’t all Texan’s wear 10-gallon hats? 🙂
