The Rose Bowl at 7419 E. 11th St., Tulsa, has been operating for several weeks now as an events center, but Saturday marks the grand opening of the rechristened venue on old Route 66.

From the news release:

Bring your friends, family, show cars and show bikes, to enjoy free refreshments and take a tour of the Rose Bowl Event Center. Everyone’s invited! The open house is from 11 a.m. till 6 p.m. Saturday.

Make sure to stay or return for the first annual Route 66 Fall Music Festival. The Rose Bowl will be serving up fresh picked local blues entertainment.  The music starts up at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are just $10.  Cold beer and cocktails will be available for kids over the age of 21, and remember, the daytime event is free.

For the festival event that night, the Rose Bowl is hosting the Bluehemians, Danny Baker Band, Dick Sims Project and the Cindy Cain Band. The Rose Bowl’s MySpace page is here.

The Rose Bowl opened as a bowling center in 1962 and closed in 2005 not long after two arson fires there. AMF, which owned the facility, placed a no-compete clause in the contract when Sam Baker bought the building in 2006. So he had to figure out a way to use the facility for nonbowling purposes.
