Release of “Route 66” Season Two DVDs delayed

TVShowsOnDVD.com reports that the release on DVD of “Route 66 — The Complete Second Season” is being delayed.

Instead of Tuesday, the DVD set from that fabled 1960s television drama will be coming out Nov. 4. So hang in there; it’s coming.

According to Amazon.com, it’s an eight-disc set that retails for $49.98. But several outlets are selliing it for under $40.

I also was told by a Infinity/Roxbury publicist some time ago that the company hoped to have “Route 66” co-star George Maharis provide some audio commentary on a few episodes. However, Maharis was unavailable for that because he was taking his sister on an extended vacation in Europe.

  1. I am looking forward to seeing the DVD set of the TV series “Route 66” as this was one of my favorite shows of the 60s. It was great to vicarioulsy cruise around America with these two young men who were perfectly cast for their roles. On the show Mr. Maharis had a rugged, steet-wise, and intense persona in stark contrast to Mr. Milner’s cool, aloof, and intellectual temper. A perfect match! It’s too bad that the producers of the show did not do more by Mr. Maharis to keep him from leaving the series. The show was never the same after he left and was replaced by Glenn Corbett. I have read some recent interviews with Mr. Maharis, but does anyone out there have any recent news about Mr. Milner?

  2. I’ve been told that Martin Milner has had some serious health problems in recent years. If not, I certainly would have interviewed him, too (although I did hear him speak in 2002 at a Route 66 convention a few years before he became ill).
