Route 66 Marathon is Sunday

The annual Route 66 Marathon in Tulsa begins Sunday morning.

The Tulsa World has a story about a runner from Missouri, Rick Roeber, who’s going to do all 26.2 miles barefoot.

I was wondering whether Roeber has run into (no pun intended) Barefoot Ted, who ran in the Mother Road 100 two years ago. They could probably compare notes.

As it turns out, yes, Barefoot Ted was in a marathon in Long Beach, Calif., in 2005 with Barefoot Rick and a Barefoot Ken Bob.

If you just want to watch, the race begins at 8 a.m. at 18th Street and Boulder Avenue, near Veterans Park, and finishes there. Here’s a list of street closings. Here are maps of the race courses (a smidge of the run goes on Southwest Boulevard, which is Route 66).

And dress warm — temperatures are going to be in the mid-30s at the starting gun.
