The Rialto Square Theatre, a historic landmark on Route 66 in Joliet, Ill., is hosting the city’s ComEd Festival of Trees for the first time in over a decade, reports the Geneva (Ill.) Sun.
The event is from Nov. 24-30. The annual fundraiser typically generates $200,000 for Cornerstone Services, which assists people with disabilities. Proceeds this year also will help the theater. More about the event:
While the festival opens at 10 a.m. Nov 24, the event’s official kickoff begins at 5:30 p.m. later that day with an opening night gala that includes champagne, hors d’oeuvres and live music. […]
Placed in the center of the theater’s rotunda is an 18-foot Christmas tree sponsored by ComEd. Its theme is Symphony of the Season. “It will be decorated with lots of instruments, such as French horns,” said Mary Beth Clausen, development assistant. “It’s going to be breathtaking.”
People may bid through silent auction on most of the 34 trees on display […]
Also to be auctioned are 15 holiday wreaths. Themes for these include NASCAR Noel, Enchanted Spirits, Victorian Chocolates, Floral Frenzy, White Wonderland and Sleigh Ride.
And here’s a special tree for you roadies:
The Rockin’ Route 66 tree also features a juke box, an adult bicycle and gift certificates to establishments on Route 66 from Joliet all the way down to Towanda. “There are Route 66 memorabilia collectibles and swing dance lessons,” Clausen said.
