Whole lotta shakin’ going on

It’s been an unsettling past few days for folks living in or traveling through the Route 66 hamlet of Ludlow, Calif.

Ludlow was rattled by a 5.1-magniture earthquake on Friday. Then there was a 3.0 aftershock  on Sunday. The epicenter was about 16 miles away from the town. No reports of damage came with either quake.

This earthquake map shows that the Friday tremor was the biggest quake of the past week in the United States. And this shows that Ludlow is a veritable beehive of earthquake activity.

This seismic hazard map shows that Ludlow sits in a fairly risky area, so none of this recent activity should be surprising.
