Old Matt is not that old

A mile or two east of Kellyville, Okla., on Route 66 is a new place called Old Matt’s General Store.

Here’s the kicker: According to an article in the Sapulpa Daily Herald, owner Matthew Morris graduated in May and opened his store in mid-July. That’s graduated from high school, not college.

He has it figured out that by the time he enters his junior year in college, the feed store will be established and with the help of his dad, Floyd Morris, he will be able to attend college classes in Tulsa.

He said he plans to use his degree in secondary education with hopes of one day becoming a Vo-Ag teacher.

“When I graduate, if the feed store is doing well, I’ll stay here, or, I’ll teach Vo-Ag and let dad run the store,” he said. […]

The new feed store carries Missouri Farmer’s Association feeds, hay, straw and a variety of other items.

“We have everything from antiques and fishing poles to some tools and furniture,” Morris said. “We plan to sell rabbits, turkeys and maybe even some goats.”

We drove by it recently when it happened to be closed. Old Matt”s charming in its rough-hewn appearance, and a semi-abandoned roadbed of an older alignment of Route 66 runs in front of the store.
