Do yourself a favor and read this story from the Kansas City Star about a TWA flight attendant who helped a grief-stricken husband find his missing infant son. The baby was thrown from the vehicle when the man’s wife died in a car crash on Route 66 near Grants, N.M., in 1956.
The woman who found the baby recently was reconnected with him, 54 years later.
This great story has a moral. True heros are those who walk into our lives when we least expect them, do rightous deeds, then quietly avoid the limelight. The saving of a human life, or reuniting family members is a most worthy endeavor, and perhaps the greatest reward is to learn many years after the deed how your single, selfless act changed the lives of so many people in so many ways.
In our present society, we tend to avoid others and focus on ourselves. Will Rogers always said, “I never met a man I didn’t like!” I’ll bet he met a lot of heros.
“Great story,” she said, dabbing at her eyes.
