Someone went beyond the police tape to videotape the remains of the Riviera Roadhouse restaurant on Route 66 in Gardner, Ill., which was destroyed by suspicious fire a few days ago.
You’ll also see brief footage of the Streetcar Diner, which was spared.
After seeing this, it is gone for good. No use worrying about reopening or rebuilding it.
Sure glad we got to visit it several times before it closed.
My only concern with these two walking the property is if one of them fell or got a nail thru their foot – who is liable? I am still trying to find out if Peg & Bob had insurance to cover the fire seeing they were technically still the owner of the Riviera.
When I took a few pics – I was ‘in & out’ – I didn’t need the sheriff or anyone else coming out giving me a hard time.
I think the RIVIERA sign should be left on the white boards but cut out with a saw and sent to the Pontiac Museum for display.
Sure enough as I post the last post – rumor has it ‘someone’ went and stole the RIVIERA letters that made up the sign
on the front wall.
I haven’t confirmed this, but if it is true – that is just plain ignorant…
I know people want a piece of history, but THAT piece of history was slated for the Route 66 Museum in Pontiac.
If anyone knows about this – try to get it back or turned in.
I knew it should have been taken down right after the fire to prevent this… but it was not my call.
You can tell who wears the pants in that marriage.
It would be very nice to have the wall and lettering in the Illinois Route 66 Hall of Fame and museum except somebody has already taken lettering from the one remaining wall. Also, taken was a sign that sat on the grounds plus the guest book from the trolley car, and the bricks that the the two who did the video tape openly took.
As an association we followed the fire marshall’s orders because we did not want to disturb anything that may hamper the ongoing arson investigation.
I wish everyone wasn’t so selfish and would think of the outcome in the longrun.
I hope whoever took things, including the letters and the guest book, feel so full of guilt they take all of items and make a donation to the Hall of Fame Museum, including the bricks. Shame on all of you!
