Greene HD Productions, which has produced previous programs about Route 66, has shot a reality-television series, “Reality Rides,” about restoring a 1955 Buick Special. The program is set to air in spring 2011.
Brian Greene says it’s a 12-part series shot in high-definition video. A five-man team restored the Buick from the frame up, even the bolts. Because of contractual restrictions, Greene said he’s not allowed to say on which network the series will air, but added that it’s “one of the mainstream sat/cable channels everyone gets.”
Here’s the three-minute trailer for “Reality Rides.” Greene made sure to get a few Route 66 landmarks in the footage:
As for a previous Greene TV production, “Rhythms of the Road,” he said he’s been unable to find a network to air it. “With the downturn in the television business, broadcasters just don’t have the budgets they once did,” Greene said in an e-mail, “so we are still trying to figure that series out.”
A special thanks from the producers to Fran Hauser at the Mid-Point Cafe, David Rushing at the U-Drop, and Terri & Bill at the Blue Swallow. We ended up with fabulous footage and stills that will appear in the final episode of the series.
And a very special thanks to an unknown lady at the NAPA auto parts in Tucumcari who opened up after hours for us so we could pick up an electric fuel pump. We would have missed some important night shots if she had not been kind enough to open her door so late. But that’s what the wonderful folks along Route 66 do! There is no place like it.

Hi! I was wondering who I could contact on help with a car restoration.
My husband bought a 1966 Chevelle Convertible in 2003. We spent 6 years rebuilding and restoring this car. We had to do a complete frame off restoration. We replaced nearly EVERY piece of sheet metal on the car.
We joined the Good Guys car club and took our car to the shows in Des Moines, Iowa for the past several years. Last summer, we won at the Marengo Sesquicentenial car show and won best of show at the North English Celebration car show. This year, we went to a car show in Fairfield, Iowa and won first place in the convertibles category, and then the following weekend, we took the car, to the Pzazz car show in Burlington, Iowa. We again won first place in the convertibles.
When we were leaving Burlington, we got on Highway 34 West to come back home. A young man driving at a very high rate of speed and talking on his cell phone rear ended our car. He didn’t even see the car, or hit the brakes. All of our years of hard work restoring this classic beauty were destroyed in a matter of seconds.
He hit the car so hard, that the back seat was pushed up into the front seat, the front seat was broken, the seats bolts were ripped off of the floor, my husbands knees went through the steering wheel,it smashed the gas tank, the brake lines were crushed, and the battery flew into the engine and broke the valve covers off of the engine.
The young man that hit us only had minimal liability insurance, that did not cover even half of the car’s value. His insurance adjuster totalled out the car, and given that he did not have enough insurance to cover the car, they let us keep the Chevelle.
We are heart broken, that a HUGE part of our family is destroyed. Please help me bring this car back to the show condition.
Thank you in advance for considering this classic car.
I have a GREAT project for the road warriors! I bought a 1972 Chevelle back in 1997. My intentions were to fix it up, although it runs like a scalded dog. I drove it for a few years and had many offers on the car. I always wanted to restore the body, but I am was a single mom raising four children on my own dancing for tips. Now, I am in school struggling to get by. My sons face would always light up everytime i would crank the car. When he turned 16, I let him drive it. I told him that the car was his now. Well, he’s 18 now, and the car is still in the same condition. He drives the car up and down the driveway, dreaming of the day he can get it fixed. Unfortunately, the cars exterior is deteriorating fast. He is also in college and has 3 years to go. By then the car will be in even worse shape. It breaks my heart to see the car going downhill so fast. I still remember the look on his face when he was 16, driving that car. The way the economy is, I’ll probably never be able to fix it for him. He is such a good kid, never gave me a minute of trouble. Please, this is such a waste to let this car rust down when there is someone that absolutely loves the car. Can anyone help me and my son? He deserves it.
I like the others would like info on a car being restored. I was raised by an aunt and her husband since the age of 10 – I am now 32yrs old. They own 1968 Mercedes Benz that has been sitting for at least the past 25yrs. Originally it only needed a muffler but as I mentioned it has been sitting for the past 25yrs. Please help.
I absolutely love shows like this.
I know the challenges you must face with each rebuild and the sense of satisfaction seeing each detail come together. I am currently working on a vehicle known as the forgotten jeep a 1962 jeep fleetvan rumour has it that the postal service originally had a contract with the willys corporation that required them to return the vehicles at the end of their service to be recycled and keep the cost down and ensure a longer business relation. how ever 100 of these vehicles were auctioned to the public by mistake.
the others were reported destroyed.
as per article found on https://www.myrideisme.com/Blog/odd-robs-custom-van-from-mail-truck-to-custom/
parts are scarce, as is any verifiable information on these rare machines. I feel very lucky that mine was in such good shape when I purchased it.
if these vehicles are indeed this rare then they are a part of american history which should be preserved. I’ve searched the internet and have only found around 9 or so of these vehicles that are verified to be still in existence.
1975caprice classic convertible. It’s not in bad condition. I have some photos of the car in my facebook (Jesus Fiol). My default picture has my son in his army uniform. If you would like to use it in your show please email me.
I Think I have the “Ultimate Challenge for a Restoration”. As far I can remember, I saw a strange looking car that looked like a car in the front, But had the rear of a Pick-Up truck. I had to know what this vehicle was, and who offered it for sale. Later I found out it was (as we all know) an El Camino. I had to have one. Finally 40 yrs. later my wish came true. I live on daytona Beach Florida and in the local shopping center every year there is a car show called the “Turkey Trot”, Of course this takes place on Thanksgiving weekend and now has become one of the largest and well known gatherings of all types of Hot Rods, Antique, and Custom cars.
Here’s where I come in. I was looking at all these wonderfful restorations and I gazed my eyes on a GMC Cabellero. My luck it was for sale! I bought it and was a very happy camper and enjoyed people telling me what a cool ride I had as I was driving around town. The only problem is that the Body was given a very bad paint job(Macco type)where they just painted over anything and everything(Including the Mag Wheeels) I am a disabled Vet and am retired now and would Love to see my “Baby” back to it’s Showroom cpondition again. NOW here’s the REAL Callange. Make it a ONE-OF-Kind, And turn it into a Convertible. This was never offered By any of the Car makers. Chevy, GMC, Or Ford.
As Reba MacIntire said…”Let’s Em somthing to talk about” I am willling to display any Advertising advertising for promotion for your show. I am confident that the restoration crew would really see this as a “Good” Challenge.
Hello, I am #7 on this list. I want to add a few things to my request. First, I want to clear up, That I am Disabled and A Vet…Not a Disabled Vet ! Second, I know Reba Mckintyre didn’t sing that song. (My mistake) Now, I had the Truck, (caballero is a truck) up on the lift at the local Gas Station. I noticed my floorboards were completely rotted out.Showing the also rotted padding. So I took out the seats and carpet, And repaired the floor with some sheetmetal and some rivits since I don’t have a welder. I then bought some outdoor carpet and covered my horrible patch job. This made me look further into the severity of my trucks “cancer’. Wow, it was all over the place I’m afraid to fix the lower control arm bushings because I don’t want to open a “Can-O-Worms. Also the radiator housing is shot,As well as the headlight housing. Further inspections found more rot in many places.Last week Idrove on the 95, And when I hit 65 I started to lose power. The pings and knocks were very disturbing to hear. So now I keep it local .I don’t know how much longer she will last. i can’t afford ato fix it all. So i’m asking for your help. Thank you and Good Luck with the show ! Hey Daytona is a great Place to do a Road Trip. “Hint, Hint”
I am writing on behalf of one of my most loyalist of friends. My friend has just suffered a dramatic loss as his wife passed last week at the young age of 29. As a single father of 4, Austin who is 13, Hanna who is 11, Carly is 6 and their youngest Kyle who is 20 months. Currently he is struggling just to attempt to get organized. A man whom for the past several years has worked hard to take care of his family while his wife took care of his home is forced to take care of both and is completely overwhelmed. Before his wife passed they spend every weekend during the summer months taking out his 81 Pontiac Firebird for a night out on the town. This car has a tremendous amount of sentimental value to my friend as many good times were spend with him and his wife. He has always spent his extra cash attempting to restore his Firebird but it has been a very slow process. He must now find another job as his job required him to leave for days at a time. He will soon be struggling financially as his wife had no life insurance. He is a good man down on his luck. It would mean so much to this very good man if this car was to be restored.
We are seeking a TV production team to do a series
on the retro fitting of the “HEMIJET”,for it’s World Speed record for a street legal classic car.

WHAT CAN I DO TO GET THIS ACCOMPLISHED?
I recently acquired a 1969 Olds 4-4-2… It is in pretty bad shape because it was sitting out in the elements for about 6 years with its past owner never once being moved or driven. I found it about three years ago and then spent close to an entire year trying to convince the owner to sell it to me and let me make it right. It was never for sale but somehow I was able to convince the owner to sell it to me. My father and I have been working on it for about a year and a half and we have a lot of the know how but not the finances to do it ourselves… It has also been ripped up and torn apart by its old owner, and Im trying to work my way around the mess. The interior of the car is thrashed and the exterior is a bit rough but not beyond repair. (Not too much rust) The electrical needs to be completely redone and Im sure plenty of other stuff. But strangely enough, the motor is in pretty good shape. I have redone the entire fuel sys and flushed, cleaned, and refilled all the fluids. I have also replaced the points, plugs and worked the distributor to a pretty smooth run, but none the less, it still needs tons of work… It once was and hopefully will be again a beautiful machine. The story of how I got it could only be described as “Devine Intervention” and the story behind why I worked so hard to find this car is a pretty inspiring story of bonding and reconnecting between myself and my father. Please help me make this car what it should be and help strengthen the bond between me and my father…
There are several reasons why my dad should be chosen for this show. Arnold Graves is an honest, simple and hard-working man. It has been a dream of his to restore his 1972 Chevrolet El Camino since my childhood. His career in general contracting has given him the opportunity to serve people in the community and to renovate and improve many homes throughout New Jersey. However due to finances amongst other road-blocks throughout his life, he has never had the opportunity to restore his car. He was always, especially to me and my family, a very talented, accomplished, honorable man who truly took pride in his work. In 1999, my father along with his two brothers was diagnosed with a rare case of cardiomyopathy following the sudden unexpected death of their oldest brother. Please note that this cardiac disease is strictly hereditary. For another thing I have always admired my dad was his abstinence from alcohol and cigarettes. This man, believe it or not, has never once touched either in his entire life. My father’s condition gradually worsened and after about 8 years, it affected his ability to sustain his independent contracting business. Under doctors’ orders, his career came to a hault. This alone took a huge toll on my dad. Then about a year and a half ago, his heart doctors were left no choice but to surgically implant an L-VAD (Left Ventricular Assistance Device) which would keep him alive while he waited for a donor. Once again life circumstances got in the way of his dream of restoring the El Camino. This past April, he and my family were blessed with a perfect donor match and my dad got a second chance at a healthy life. On April 12th, which we have named his 2nd birthday my dad received a new, young and healthy heart. He has been home for a couple of months now and he and my family are adjusting to a life of lots of anti-rejection medications, sunscreen, dietary limitations and strict guidelines that will increase his chances of non-rejection. After all of the hardships my dad has been through fighting this debilitating heart disease it would truly be a blessing for our family to be able to surprise him with this life-long simple dream of restoring his El Camino.
My husbands dream is to restore hes 1970 Chevy Nova. Hes a hard working honest man. We’ve had it for a few years. He got it running but he unfortunately has no time as well as money to restore the car. as he works constantly to barely pay the Mortgage. He has done a lot for our family, this gift will be the best gift anyone has ever given him. please contact me as I will really appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.

My mom grew up loving Shelby Cobras. Her uncle had a couple at his auto body repair that had been wrecked and as a child she and her cousins would play in them. She had talked to her Uncle about saving her one once it was fixed up she wanted to buy it. But he was offered a chance to sell his bussiness and they wanted the Shelbys as part of the deal. So she never got one. In 1984 she bought her first new car…a 1984 Shelby Charger. She loved that car.She never drove it in the winter so that the salt on the roads or crazy drivers wouldn’t wreck it. Every summer she couldn’t wait to drive it, and it was like having a new car every year. When I was born in 93 she didn’t get to drive it much because she wanted me to be safe. and she didn’t want to mark the seats up with the carseat. In the following years she only got to drive it occasionally as she said she wanted to keep this car for the rest of her life as it was the only Shelby she would ever be able to get. It was stored waiting to get repainted as the paint was applyed to thin when it was built. She just kept driving the mini van and dreaming about fixing he Shelby back up.In 2005 she found a shop that restored cars they came out and looked it over and we were waiting for the appraisal and the owner of the shop died. So she started to look for another place. In 2006 we had a flood in our area the water only got to the floor and she managed to get it dried out and it still ran ok . But during the flood she injured her ancle and was busy helping others deal with the results of the flood. So she felt others had things that were more inportant and stored it again. this week we were flooded again. this time the car was under 3 ‘ of water. Mom says other people lost more important things and that she needs to growup and relize it’s just a car. Dad says she should sell it for parts. My Mom adopted me at birth. She gave up her career when she found out I was Autistic so I could live a better life. She has taken courses to learn more about Autism and has run workshops to help other parent and teachers to improve the life of other autistic people. I’m 18 and a senior in highschool and will be graduating with honors. I’m in a class that my mom helped create. I will be going to college to study theater in 2012. Everything that I do is because my mom was willing to do whatever she had to do to make it happen for me. And she does it for other people to. She is a member of the Comitee for Special Education at our local school. And she volenteers and helps others when ever help is needed. Now I think she needs help from others to keep her dream car from slipping away from her.
We have a 1979 Ford Bronco, it has been passed down from my father in law to my husband about 15 years ago. Her or his name is Brutus, formerly Thumper. In the past Brutus has survived numerous 4X4 expeditions, winching out our buddies, brought home 2 kids from the hospital, rides in the rain with the top off, nights at the drive through movies and many more memories. My husbands career was also started all thanks to Brutus. He built a new motor with a mechanic over a couple months time and the mechanic offered him a job as an apprentice heavy equip. tech and the rest is history. Over time we have not had the time or $$$ to keep her looking and running at her best, she has been stored indoors and it would be an amazing gift to have her back.
I just started going back to school and decided to buy a 1975 Toyota Corolla to save on gas and to play in. It has been refitted with the old 2TG motor which was used in their rally cars back in the day. I’ve had it for a couple months and now the motor needs so be rebuilt. I am a student now and I don’t have the capital or time to rebuild it myself. I’ve tried to limp to school in it and am having to stop way too often to let the oil burn off of #4 spark plug. I know what is wrong with it, I just can’t do it all myself right now This is an awesome little car that want to use as a daily driver to get to and from class. I haven’t even got to drive her enough to give her a real name. I am now forced to drive my moms Isuzu van to and from class and it is depressing to be in that thing. I have never seen any car like this on any of the restoration shows and it would be an awesome project. I wish I didn’t have to ask for help, because I would like to do it myself, but if you could help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Please get me back on the road in my Mango. Thank You!
My husband has had a 1969 Z28 Camero for almost 30 years. When I met him the car ran, but it soon after it went into the garage. After 25 years it has taken the back seat to make room for everyone else’s needs.
He has worked as a tractor mechanic for 24 years, and put in many overtime hours for his his two daughters and me.
He never complained about waiting to restore his car. The car has sat in pieces in our 2nd garage from the time we moved to Idaho from California in 1995.
This man has put me and our daughters through college.Because of him, I am a teacher. Due to the economy I have taken some major pay cuts, which makes it seem like funding his dream may never come true.
I can’t think of a more deserving person than Jon to receive such an amazing gift of having his Camero restored.
There is much more to Jonathan’s story, but I won’t post the more personal information.

Hello,
I was reading over the entries that we have all been posting, and was hard pressed to find any that did not warrant a turn on this restoration show. All our stories are personal, and very near and dear to our hearts… and as I read them, I could see that each and everyone of us deserve consideration. The show gives us hope. Hope that even if our number is not called, that our dreams are within our reach.
My Dreams came true, when I met and married an incredible woman in 2005 that loved and cared for me through the good times and the bad. Emmy took one look in my eyes, before telling me that I was hiding something with my smiles… She then started to mend my soul. Right after we tied the knot, I bought her a car that was dependable and fun. It was the first vehicle that I ever bought for anyone, and the first one that was hers and hers alone. It was a 1989 Toyota Celica Convertible GT, that needed a little work. As is often the case, I could not get around to doing the repairs on her car, and mechanical issues began to stack up until the car was parked as “Unserviceable.” My plans to fix up the car were further derailed, when complications from my service connected TBI (Traumatic Brain Injuries) from proximity to explosions, and West Nile Virus from the two military service tours to the Middle East (Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, and Israel) began to show up. Those conditions combined with the toxins we were exposed to resulted in frequent high fevers that eventually culminated with an Immune System crash in the form of a Mengeo Encephalitis. Now, my wife has become my full time care giver, and I can barely wash a car, before I am worn out. If it is at all possible, it would be incredible if her Celica could be featured on your show. If it is not, then I understand, and would only like to receive a reply that tells me you have seen this electronic message ‘in a bottle…’ Good day to you all and God Bless all my fellow fans, as we attempt to adequately express ourselves on this forum…
Thank You,
Steve
Hi there, my husband bought a 1971 javalin! He hired a fellow/company 2 yrs ago to restore it….to make a long story short, $9500.00 and a court case he still did not have it restored! He then hired a different fellow/company in July of 2011….they STILL have his car, nothing has been done & my husband has already given this second fellow $7500.00!!! I am writing to you in hopes that someone can help me…this is his “dream car” he has put SO MUCH $ and worry into this project that seems completly hopeless!! All I want is for him to be proud of the work done and to be able to drive his “baby” around this summer!!!
Sincerly
Tammy…hopeless in Canada!!
If anybody knows of a current reality show that does car restoration, please let me know via carriedaway777@yahoo.com I have a car that was the only thing that my father has been able to leave for me. It is very sentimental to me but it is going downhill everyday that it is not being restored! I need the help please!
My husband’s first car was a 1967 Pontiac LeMans convertible, the color of General Lee on Dukes of Hazzards! As a wedding gift in 1999, I had the car restored to at least run well again and purchased new tires. Needs some body work and a new grille and probably more since it has been in storage for quite a while. If this show becomes a reality and you do restore cars for all of us who have our stories and dreams of restoration, that would be wonderful and hopefully you will consider us, also!
Hi, My name is Leah Gimbel and my husband Ernie has a 64 Malibu that he has own since he was 16. I remember the day he saw the car. It was sitting at a shop and he made an emergency stop, thought his neck was gonna break in half cause he stopped so fast. Good thing nobody was behind us. The car was for sale for $600 (this was back in 1988) he was. He talked to the gentleman that had it for sale and asked if he could make payments, they made an agreement so my husband went out and got a job and started making payments. He worked so hard to get the car, I was so very proud of him. You should have seen his face when it was brought home. It was like a kid in a free candy shop.
Back in 1995 we bought a house and since then the car has sat. Money was tight and we were not able to do anything with it. So there it sat in a ran down garage. We have recently torn down the old garage and have built a new one and in doing so was able to see how much damage was done to the car. It really set hard on my husband he was really upset.
I finally talked him into tearing into the card and get it restored. Last night we loaded it up on the car trailer to haul it over to a friends garage to have him work on it as we can afford. So it will be probably be a long drawn out process. I know this friend has done a lot of restoration in his time, but I would really like to have the best for my husband of 23 yrs. He has done all he could to make sure I had the best and now it is his turn.
He is slowly buying parts and I told him to order everything not to skimp but he is because we don’t have all the money it would take to redo it the way it we would like to have it done. We talk about it and you can hear in his voice how he wish he had the money to do this or the money to do that, it really hurts me deep down to listen to him talk about it and not be able to do anything for him.
If you could, would you really take into consideration my application, it would really mean the world to me to see that little kid in the candy shop again.
Thank You so much for taking the time and allowing me to tell you my story.

I have pictures of what it used to look like when he brought it home and pictures of what it looked like last night before loading it up on the trailer.
I am looking to see who I can talk with to help make my husbands dream of getting his 1970 Mach 1 Mustang restored. See he is in the army and has been deployed twice since he has had it. Back in 2009-2010 when he was gone he tried to have a shop do up some work with the shop owner just taking $10,100 and decaring bankruptcy and not doing any work so now my husband is stuck with nothing but his car still needing to be fixed and the money gone.
My brother-in-law is a 53 yr old who had survived head & throat cancer last November (20011). However, just before Christmas this year (2012) he found out that the cancer has traveled to his lungs & liver. My reason for writing this is because he has been working along with his son, who is a senior in high school this year, on re fininshing their 1969 Pontiac Firebird. The car was just a shell when they started this project. Unfortunately though, this work on the Firebird has come to a complete stop due to my brother-in-law’s condition. My sister is concerned that the car may never get finished & even though my brother-in-law has been looking forward to driving it, it was really supposed to be a graduation gift for my nephew, who graduates on May 31, 2013. The cancer has also caused my brother-in-law’s blood to clot to extreme, causing him to have numerous strokes, some mini but the last one was a major one. The severity of this last stroke has left him paralyzed on his right side & unable to speak or swallow. He has been under going intense therapy at home & has been successful in that he has now re gained the use of his right leg & hand.He still needs to get his nourishment via a feeding tube in his stomach though. I am asking for your help to make this car the gift it was meant to be for my nephew in May. I know that it was a “father & son project” but the father part isn’t able to happen anymore. It would mean the world to my brother-in-law, my sister, my nephew & alos myself if you were able to come to our/their “rescue” in this case with this project. My brother-in-law whose name is Paul, & my nephew whose name is Alex, would really be “happy campers” if you could make this happen for them. Paul & Alex, as well as my sister Gloria are great people who have had more than their share of heart ache these past few years! It would be great to bring a little sunshine into their lives at this point. Thnak you for listening to my cry for help, for them. Sincerely,

I too am looking for someone to make my husband’s dream come true! He has a ’68 Oldsmobile Cutlass that he has been working on for the last two years. It has taken a lot of money and precious time away from our family. FINALLY, last week, he got it on the road! We were so excited! and then…the worst thing that could happen…it has a cracked head. Please let me know if you are interested in seeing picture and possibly taking the time to restore my husband’s ride!
I am trying to find someone who can help restore my son’s 1966 mustang. I was a single Mother for a very long time with two wonderful boys. I was never really able to give them much but in 2010 I received some back child support for the boys and when I received it I bought my oldest boy his dream car when he was 13 which was a older model mustang and have tried restoring it over the years so it would be ready for him on his 16th birthday and we thought we were going to have it ready for him. We got the motor looked over and had to spend money fixing that and got the wiring redone and then we found out that the frame is rusted out and we are tuning to the internet to see if we can get help to get it finish by the time he turns 16. I know this is a long shot but we are having to talk to him about selling the car and getting something else because we have spent everything we can on the car.
