The Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program, part of the National Park Service, announced Tuesday it now is taking applications for cost-share grants for 2012.
Applications will be accepted through April 6. The grants will be announced later this summer.
The cost-share grant program has proven to be an ideal way for historic Route 66 property owners and stakeholders to make crucial repairs or vital improvements. It covers up to 50 percent of a project’s cost.
This recent short video at the Wagon Wheel Motel in Cuba, Mo., shows its main shop and cabins getting new roofs. The roofs is being paid for in part from a 2011 cost-share grant:
Since its inception in 2001, the program has given out more than $1.5 million in grants to more than 100 projects. Highlights from the program can be seen here.
Application guidelines and forms can be downloaded here.
One recipient – the Manning’s Coffee Shop sign – was re-lit last night thanks in part to the National Park Service’s grant!
