The program deals with the life of John Steinbeck, author of “The Grapes of Wrath.” Naturally, it’s got plenty of Route 66-related content.

It always amazes me that BBC can take an American subject and turn it into a documentary that forces me, on a fairly slow broadband, to watch the whole thing. This is a great program, and I wish for more. Steinbeck is my favorite writer. As the son, and grandson, of Dust Bowl survivors, my Route 66 journey continues…
