Will Rogers, Carol Duncan voted to Oklahoma Route 66 Hall of Fame

Longtime Oklahoma Route 66 volunteer Carol Duncan and the late comedian, writer, and actor Will Rogers will be inducted into the Oklahoma Route 66 Hall of Fame when the Oklahoma Route 66 Museum in Clinton officially reopens May 26, according to a news release today from the Oklahoma Route 66 Association.

The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place 2 p.m. that Saturday at the museum, which will officially reopen that day after an extensive renovation project that began in January. Activities are scheduled throughout the day, including special Route 66 guests, music, free admission, and refreshments.

Every two years, the association selects two people, one living and one deceased, for induction into the Oklahoma Route 66 Hall of Fame. They’re honored for outstanding contributions to the promotion, commerce, preservation, or education of the public of America’s Main Street.

Parts of Route 66 were named after Rogers after he died in a plane crash in 1935.

Nominations come from the association’s members. A committee reviews the nominations and selects the winners. A plaque for each winner will be placed on the Wall of Honor at the museum.
