The tourism department of Pontiac, Ill., has always seemed forward-thinking. Continuing that trend, it has created a Mobile Device Tour for smartphones and tablet computers.
From the news release:
The mobile device tour provides additional information on many of Pontiac’s most popular tourist attractions and can be accessed by visitors through the use of a cell phone, smart phone, or tablet with cell phone capability. Placed around the city are new signs that provide the cell phone number, the stop number and a QR code that can be scanned with a smart phone.
At each stop, the visitor will hear information that provides background and context for the specific attraction being viewed. Kent Casson and Lane Lindstrom two of our favorite on-air personalities at WJEZ, have provided most of the audio recordings for the city’s attractions. The Mobile Device tour currently includes 22 murals, four museums, three historic homes, all three of Pontiac’s swinging bridges, and some of the memorials around the county courthouse.
Plans are to create additional mobile device tour stops, and perhaps begin to offer information in foreign languages for the City’s international visitors.
Pretty neat, huh?
Pontiac is home to the Illinois Route 66 Hall of Fame & Museum and the Pontiac Oakland Automobile Museum.
