The Navajo Nation is building a Twin Arrows Navajo Casino Resort at the Twin Arrows exit near Route 66 in eastern Arizona, reported the Arizona Daily Sun today, with an anticipated opening of May 2013.
The casino will be located north of the Twin Arrows exit off Interstate 40. The newspaper said:
The Twin Arrows Navajo Casino Resort, near Interstate 40, will have nearly 1,100 slot machines, blackjack and poker tables, 200 hotel rooms by winter of 2013-2014, a gift shop selling mostly low-price items, a food court, a sports bar, and ultimately a spa area.
Longer-term plans include parking areas and amenities for high-end motorhomes, a nightclub, a conference center, and a spa with steam rooms, massages and hot tubs.
The long-closed Twin Arrows Trading Post and its iconic giant Twin Arrows still stand on the south side of I-40.
It was reported in 2009 that the Hopi Indian tribe had plans to reopen the trading post. Whether the Navajo’s announcement affects that remains unknown.
However, we saw during a recent vacation that trench work had been performed around the site, indicating that some development there was imminent.
Let’s see, No Smokeing at the casino at all, No alcohol on the Casino Floor, and to top that off only a 3 drink minimum. Not going to go there!!!!!!!
