This Land Press, based in Tulsa, recently put together this audio story about the Dust Bowl of the 1930s, combining clips from the Oklahoma Oral History Research Program and narration by musician and historian Tom Naples.
What’s eerie about this program is that Oklahoma — and much of the U.S. — also is going through a summer of record heat and drought.
Even more eerie, is that during this 12 year drought period so far, some of the very same agricultural and land use mistakes that helped contribute to the dust bowl, are taking place again! I’ve wondered many times in the last few years, if the drought doesn’t subside and mismanagement of land use continues, could we be headed for another dust bowl???
