Dennis Purschwitz, new owner the Midpoint Cafe in Adrian, Texas, said on a Facebook post he’s making improvements to the “midpoint of Route 66” sign across the road from his restaurant.
The project involves installing paver stones to make a more park-like setting, wheelchair / ADA access to the sign, and a platform immediately behind the sign to allow people to people to stand behind/above the sign.
Next phase of the project, we hope to have a crosswalk painted across RT66 with the words “MidPoint” painted within, along with RT 66 shields in each lane.
All the work and materials is / has been provided by donations and volunteer labor, including TXDOT, Oldham County, Adrian Lions Club, LS Sand & Gravel, Ricky’s Towing of Amarillo, Wanzek Constructors, and the MidPoint Cafe. Hopefully the work will be completed in approximately 1 month. Stay tuned.
But do not worry, the Welcome to the Midpoint sign has been temporarily relocated to the west by 50 feet of the previous location.
The sign already is a significant photo-op on Route 66. With these improvements, it and its neighboring restaurant will be even more popular.
Purschwitz purchased the Midpoint in March.
