The History Museum on the Square in Springfield, Mo., is hosting a “Moon Over the Mother Road” ceremony Thursday night to mark the relighting of Barth’s Department Store neon sign on the roof of the museum.
It’s a private fundraiser, but enough side streets will be open during the ceremony that most people will see it when the neon torches are relighted about 9 p.m.
Not only is the museum in downtown Springfield on an old alignment of Route 66, but it is hosting the much-praised “Woodruff’s Dream” exhibit that traces the history of Route 66 in the Springfield area.
The exhibit runs through Sept. 14.
