The historic Palms Grill Cafe on Route 66 in downtown Atlanta, Ill., will temporarily close after Oct. 25 because current manager Ronda McBride has contracted cancer and needs to focus on her health and treatments, according to a news release.
The restaurant will be open for special occasions and periodic dinner programs by the Atlanta Public Library. The library board, which owns the restaurant, will begin an immediate search for a new manager.
Information for anyone interested in becoming the new manager of the restaurant soon will be made available on the Palms Grill Cafe website and its Facebook page.
McBride became the restaurant’s new manager in May after the library board announced in January it would seek new managers for the restaurant. The previous lessee, which owned another restaurant in town, kept the hours of the Palms Grill Cafe “too limited,” said board treasurer William Thomas.
The Palms Grill, which opened in 1934, closed in the late 1960s. The restaurant was restored in 2009, and quickly became a must-stop for Route 66 travelers.

My favorite restaurant in the world. God, bless and heal Ronda.
Best wishes and prayers for Ronda.
