George Maharis, co-star of CBS-TV’s “Route 66” drama of the early 1960s, was interviewed for 21 minutes a few days ago on “The Vintage Rock and Pop Shop” on WFDU radio in New Jersey.
Maharis now is 85 years old.
In 2007, I interviewed Maharis for about a half-hour before “Route 66” episodes finally trickled out on DVD. It’s become one of the most popular posts on Route 66 News.
All four seasons of “Route 66” can be purchased here in one box set. If that’s too much for you, there’s a two-disc package of the 11 best episodes here.
(Publicity still from “Route 66” of co-stars George Maharis, left, and Martin Milner)
Fabulous interview! Wonderful man who’s mind is obviously very, very sharp at age 85.
Childhood hero! As Buz Murdoch, influenced my attitude and values in life. The show stayed with me for 50 years!
Thanks for the great interview. I had such a thing for that guy! I actually married a man who looked a lot like him….
Met George when filming Rt 66 in Pittsburgh. Loved him, he was so kind to myself and my friend Anna. We invited him to dinner by writing letters and putting the letters in his corvette in front of Hilton Hotel. He called us both and declined our invite. Got backstage at Twin Coaches where at his request, he took pics with us. I JUST WISH I COULD TELL HIM HOW HIS KINDNESS MEANT THE WORLD TO US. Love you George always.
