The Arizona Office of Tourism launched an Electric Vehicle Travel Guide that includes tours on Route 66, according to a story on HybridCars.com.
AOT’s Electric Vehicle Travel Guide is said to be tailored specifically for all-electric vehicle travelers and filled with valuable, downloadable travel information. The AOT said the guide provides multiple suggested itineraries that combine statewide destinations with available charging locations and includes an Arizona state map, emergency contact information, weather averages, and elevation charts to help EV drivers plan their Arizona road-trip adventures. The guide also includes a list of hotels that make charging available to overnight guests. […]
The first travel itinerary highlights a Los Angeles to Northern Arizona route that features Route 66, Grand Canyon National Park, Sedona, Scottsdale and Phoenix, stated the AOT. The second itinerary promotes Phoenix to Southern Arizona and features stops in Tucson, Tombstone, Bisbee and Sierra Vista.
An eight-page Acrobat file of the Southern-California-to-Northern-Arizona guide may be downloaded here. The listings of attractions on Route 66 are a bit perfunctory, but in general it’s a well-conceived guide for EV travelers.
It’s a smart move by Arizona Tourism. The Los Angeles area alone contains more than 17,000 EV drivers as of October 2013. Also, Tesla Motors has built several Supercharger stations along the Interstate 40 corridor, aka Route 66, in northern Arizona, and the La Posada Hotel in Winslow added an EV charger of its own. And the International Route 66 Festival in Kingman this summer is hosting a gathering of EV aficionados.
