KABC, the major affiliate of ABC in Los Angeles, in recent days gave a lot of time examining Route 66 in the region in its “Eye on L.A.” show.
Here is the San Bernardino to San Gabriel Valley segment:
Monrovia to South Pasadena:
The Arroyo Seco to downtown segment:
West Hollywood to the end of the trail:
You can read the online versions of the stories here.
It’s my understanding that Kumar Patel at the Wigwam Motel in San Bernardino lobbied the station for months to do a story about Route 66 in the Los Angeles area. Apparently someone listened.
So nice to see the program
I grew up on Route 66 in Joplin, Mo. When I looked at this collection of video productions from the Calif TV station, I started with the last one first. WHERE DID THEY GET THAT MAP (shown near the end of the segment)? That is NOT Route 66. Come to think of it, if the use of THAT map is an indication of the accuracy of the series, I’m glad I only watched one part – Whew!
The show also featured the Autry Route 66 exhibit on through January 4.
