Although a great many of you have long since voted, the poll begun in early December about the top 10 icons of Route 66 remains open through Dec. 31.
More than 18,000 votes have been collected so far. On midnight Dec. 31, the poll will close, we’ll tally the results, and post a story about the winners.
You’re allowed to make your 10 choices once every 24 hours. So if there’s a Route 66 icon you had forgotten one day, you can come back the next day to vote for it.
The poll also has a form where you can write in candidates, but please look over the main list carefully to make sure it isn’t already there. A number of voters wrote in icon candidates there had already been on the list.
Have fun with this. I admit it’s been great fun to see everyone get excited and participate in this.

I don’t remember seeing such a clean start of route in Chicago on our trip last year. Has it been recently replaced? It was a welcome site for our end of route journey despite being very beat up and graffiti marked.
