Chuck Williams, who parlayed his Christian faith and enthusiasm for Route 66 into two editions of his “Eternal Route 66” book, recently announced he’s created an “Eternal Route 66” DVD filmed on the Mother Road.
Here’s a trailer for the project. You’ll probably recognize a few Route 66 landmarks in the background:
A description of the DVD:
The DVD contains a 10-12 minute discussion-starter for each of the 8 sessions. […] Eternal Route 66 is an intriguing road trip through all 66 Books of the Bible and across Historic Route 66. Road trips are a blast, especially when experienced with a small group of friends. In the same way, we believe that spiritual growth takes place best through small group experiences. This study will help participants gain a greater grasp of the entire Bible, become familiar with many of the most important attitudes and practices of a follower of Christ, grow in their understanding of God’s purpose for people, and, at the same time, gain a love and understanding of America’s Highway, the world famous historic Route 66. An added bonus is that they’ll also get to know a group of friends in a deeper and more intimate way.
The DVD also is slated to stream at RightNow Media, although I didn’t find it listed there Saturday morning.
Williams also posted this message Friday on the route66 yahoogroup:
I’m especially grateful to my long-time friend and video producer, Johnny Busby for his countless hours invested in the project. Johnny’s wife, Yolanda, and their daughter, Whitney made major contributions as members of the film crew. Each of the 8 sessions and the trailer were filmed at different locations along Route 66 in Texas and New Mexico.
I’m also grateful to another amazing friend, Brian Findley for his contribution of “Drive On” from his self-titled album, for our theme song. And one more friend to thank, Dan Rice of 66-to-Cali on the Santa Monica Pier for his excellent postlude at the end of Session 8.
The whole thing was a huge “enjoy the journey” experience with God guiding and providing at every juncture. I was continually reminded of 2 Corinthians 3:4-5: “Such confidence we have through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.”

If you want to order his book, you can find it at the link below. He says an e-book version will be available on Amazon soon.
I’ve noticed a number of pastors who’ve used the “Route 66” theme over the years because the Bible contains 66 books. I have no big objection to this, although their efforts often contain the faint whiff of exploitation. And you can be relatively certain they know almost nothing about the Mother Road itself.
Williams is different. I’ve met him several times over the past 10 years, and his love of Route 66 and the Gospels are genuine. And although I would never be described as evangelical, I’ve found his “Eternal Route 66” book to be thoughtful and sincere.
Thank you, Ron. Your endorsement means a lot to me.
