If you’ve visited the California Route 66 Museum in Victorville and are feeling hungry, you don’t need to go far for a meal.
Renee Allen’s Mac & Cheese and More opened last month at 16838 D Street, across the street from the museum. The restaurant also has a location in nearby Apple Valley, California.
According to the Hesperia Star newspaper, count the co-founder of the museum as a fan:
As hundreds of cars drove pass the center on Thursday afternoon, longtime Victor Valley resident Betty Halbe visited the restaurant to place an order.
“They have the best mac and cheese I’ve ever tasted,” said Halbe, co-founder of the museum. She said the thoroughfare sees a lot of foreign travelers who want to see the famous Route 66. “We have visitors from all over the world and country that stop by on a daily basis. There’s a lot of activity going on, so I think the restaurant’s move here is a smart one.”
Restaurant owner Brigette Conyers was encouraged to open a restaurant after she sold out of her version of mac-and-cheese at area farmers markets. Renee Allen’s Mac & Cheese and More also offers barbecued pork ribs, fried chicken, pork chops, fried catfish, hot links, corn bread and lots of other sides, peach cobbler and sweet potato pie.
