The Fox23 television station in Tulsa devoted about four minutes last week to a free-wheeling report about the Route 66 Alliance trying to raise money to build that long-planned Route 66 Experience museum near the banks of the Arkansas River in town.
You’ll see author Michael Wallis and Cyrus Avery II, the grandson of Cyrus Avery, make an appearance:
The museum’s been a long time coming. Vision 2025 — which fostered improvements on Route 66 in Tulsa County — was approved by voters in 2003. The city backed off in building the museum once it became apparent it would have eaten up that part of the Vision 2025 budget. Because city finances are tight, the Alliance has to raise its sure of the cash for the museum.
Still, raising $15 million is a tall order — which obviously is why the city hasn’t approved the proposal from the Route 66 Alliance yet for redeveloping that spot.
