Anyone know anything about this clock?

A reader is asking about the origins of a Route 66 clock he hopes to repair.

An email from Kevin Knaup of Frontenac, Kansas, read:

It belonged to my dad at one time and I’ve had it for about 10 years now. The time recently stopped working and I am not having any luck finding someone who can repair it. I’ve had it at a jewelers for four months and he can’t seem to find the right time movement for it. The plaque on the clocks says it was number 13 of 66 and I was hoping to find someone else who had another clock like it. I would like to get some history on it, if possible.

The clock apparently was made in 1992, because it subtly marks the 66th anniversary of Route 66. So the clock is about 25 years old. Here are two photos of it:

I’ve found nothing online about a clock such as this. I’m guessing it was limited-edition series from a defunct company or something special issued for a Route 66 event.

The interesting part is the clock dates to just after when the renaissance of Route 66 began, when Michael Wallis’ best-selling “Route 66: The Mother Road” was published.

If you know anything about the clock, write Knaup at kknaup1(at)cox(dot)net or you can comment on this story.

  1. https://www.waynesneonclocks.com/ You can buy any parts for this clock you want… it’s a reproduction of the old style spinner neon clock. If you can use the internet, you can find parts for most anything. I pulled this up in two minutes. Why take to a jeweler when you can fix it yourself??? The electric motor probably just needs a tiny drop of very light oil, and a little help to get it running again.

    1. Hi I just bought the same clock today at a yard sale. The dates on my clock are from 1926-2001. 75th anniversary. Works great. Paid 60.00.
